Press Release from the Diaspora Support Group of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara
May 28. 2012 – The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) on 24th May 2012 published an expulsion letter of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara (UBK) from the SLPP.
We the Diaspora supporters of UBK would like to register our disappointment on the motive of the SLPP leadership to take such a callous action against a man who had supported the SLPP both financially and morally. A support he unconditionally rendered particularly at those times when the SLPP was greatly in need. Sadly, the SLPP were quick to forget all of UBK’s good work to the extent that the leadership deliberately fails to address or even acknowledge his grievances.
On 6th September 2011, UBK and a cross section of our supporters presented some six points to the National Executive Committee of the SLPP and on several occasions our team re-echoed these six points to other stakeholders in the party including; the running mate Dr. Kadie Sesay. Instead of them making any attempt to address those six points; they rather resorted to misleading and misinforming the members of the party and the general public on what the real issues are. Therefore, we believe that this action to expel UBK was ill motivated and aimed at nothing but to undermine the genuine popularity and support he enjoys from a majority of Sierra Leoneans.
Unfortunately for the SLPP, their laughable action to single out Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara for expulsion has backfired. Their choice to publish the expulsion letter only succeeded in increasing his popularity rating amongst the people of Sierra Leone.
On this note, we his supporters from the diaspora continue to assure UBK of our unwavering support. We assert that no form of lies, propaganda or blackmail by the SLPP leadership will change our support for him. This is because, UBK’s public activities dating back many years before becoming active in politics left us all convinced that he is a person who always wants to see Sierra Leone progress and develop. Throughout his public and private life, he has demonstrated to be nothing less than a patriot, philanthropist, and a man who respects and cares for other people regardless of their social standing.
In conclusion, we would like the SLPP leadership to note that we are aware of their plans to mount a smear campaign against Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara for the sole purpose of scoring political points. We have no doubt that Sierra Leoneans are smart enough to distinguish between fabricated stories and truth. So as a precaution, we advise the SLPP leadership and their propaganda team not to attempt anything stupid. We believe it will serve a useful purpose to the SLPP if their leadership will spend time making a case to Sierra Leoneans on why they think they are a better alternative to govern Sierra Leone than the present Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s APC led Government. Therefore, we warn that you leave Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara alone.
Finally, regardless of any smear attacks by the SLPP leadership and their propaganda team, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara continues to be seen as a good role model in society and respected by a majority of Sierra Leoneans as a national character, a patriot, and a philanthropist.
