“SLRTA contributes 85% to road funding” – Dr Sarah Bendu
The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Roads Transport Authority (SLRTA), Dr. Sarah Finda Bendu (in photo) has told reporters in Freetown that her entity contributes up to 85% of roads maintenance funds every year.
She was speaking at the weekly press conference held at the Ministry of Information and Communication conference room last week.
She told reporters of both the print and electronic media that the entire management of the Sierra Leone Roads Transport Authority (SLRTA) collects a revenue growth of Le5 billion equivalent to 85% which they always contribute as roads maintenance funds.
She said they are going to launch a road network safety campaign in the Bo city on May 22 – May 24 this year at the Tia Resort and are expecting various stakeholders from the SLRTA to meet discuss and implement the National Road policy and Safety Act.
She told the press that management and staff of the SLRTA are assigned and tasked with the sacred duties of issuing drivers’ licenses for the various categories of vehicles and motor engines.
She admonished the drivers to limit their speed levels when driving in distance journeys to avoid accidents along the upcountry roads, adding that SLRTA management has already observed the Road accident victims week and that many teenagers are being deprived of their parent due to premature deaths caused by lawless drivers.
