Somalia: First Sierra Leone troops arrive in southern Somalia town

The Sierra Leone contingent accompanied by another contingent from Uganda People’s Defense Forces ‘UPDF’, under AMISOM are now getting prepared for the first operation against Al-Shabab in southern Somalia regions.
The new contingents from Ugandan and Sierra Leone have reportedly crossed into Somalia through the Kenyan border last week and passed over Beledhawo town to reach Gedo region currently dominated by Ethiopian army backing the transitional government of Somalia.
Senior Somali military officer in Gedo region said the two contingents have officially based in Dolow district of Gedo region late on Friday while the newly trained Somali forces are assisting them in the upcoming anti Al-Shabab incursion.
“This mission’s commitment is securing the entire country from the extremists, we are first moving towards Middle Jubba region through Bardere town. This will be soon and successful operation.” He said.
Meanwhile the Ethiopian Prime Minister Melez Senawi have announced that his forces will help Somali military forces to liberate the southern port town of Kismayo from Al-Shabab very soon.
