Sierra Leone joins The World’s Children Prize

Girl Child Network – Sierra Leone has joined 57,530 Global Friend schools comprising of 27 million students in 101 countries to vote for Anna Mollel of Tanzania, Sakeena Yacoobi of Afghanistan, and Ann Skelton of South Africa.

The World’s Children Prize child jury select three final candidates for the World’s Children Prize every year that are working very hard for children in the world.

According to Girl Child Network’s Country Director, Anita A. Koroma, the Kroo Bay, Susan Bay, Freetown Secondary Schools for Girls, Anni Walsh Memorial Secondary School, Government Model Secondary School, Rural Regent Primary and Secondary Schools, our lady of Galalopeh Lunsar, St Joseph Secondary Makeni, and the Roman Catholic Secondary schools Port Loko are the selected schools that joined the programme to vote for the best candidates among the three.  She said since it is the first time Sierra Leone is taking part, videos of the works of the above listed candidates were shown in all schools  before voting in order to give the children their right to decide who among the three deserved the cash prize of $100,000 to help boost their project .

Ms Koroma said a Global Friendship Certificate has been issued to the Girl Child Network Sierra Leone making it the 102nd country under the World’s Children Prize, noting that Wednesday May 16th was set for the announcement of the results, which she said will reach them in the not too distant future.

Anita A Koroma said the attitude displayed by Sierra Leonean children during the voting sends a message for the coming November polls that politics should be free of violence and rather see it as a game where someone either wins or lose.
