Over 300 Youths on Local Government Training – Newspaper reports say over three hundred youths drawn from various chiefdoms in the Kenema District have recently completed one day’s training on local governance issues held in Kenema Town. The organizers Brighter Future Sierra Leone, a local Non Government Organization base in Kenema, said the motive behind the training is to enable beneficiaries to participate in programmes that are geared towards community development.
Minister inspects Kailahun water facility – The Deputy Minister Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Bariku Bas Kamara, has inspected the portable water facility project in the Kailahun District. The project according to report, is been implemented by the Angelique International Limited Company. Report further states that the company’s project officer, has assured the minister that the project will be completed in 90 days
RSLAF Promotes Over 40 Personnel – The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense on Friday 4th May, 2012 promoted over forty officers to various ranks such as Captain, Lieutenant Colonel and full Colonel. According to the Media Officer attached to the Ministry, Major Samuel Moody said the promotion of officers and other ranks was done following careful scrutiny and selection by the Board Committee for officers that met the stipulated conditions for promotion.
Biriwa Chief Cancels section Chief Election – The controversially elected Paramount Chief of Biriwa Chiefdom in the Bombali District, PC Alimany Salifu Monoh Kalawa III has illegally cancelled the final result of the Bonlandugu sections chief election that was held recently at the Kamabia Court Barry in the Biriwa Chiefdom Bombali District. Giving reason for the decision, PC Alimany Salifu Kalawa said out of the 66 votes cast by the tribal authorities 12 void votes was too much and therefore he decided to cancel the election using his authority as the Paramount Chief.
SLPP Speaks on Symbol Award – Sarh Nyama, National Organizing Secretary of the opposition Sierra Leone People;s Party (SLPP) told the New Vision that the awarding of party symbol to intended candidates will be done by the people and not the National Executive as the party is operating on a people centered policy wherein they are given the opportunity to award symbols to candidates through primaries, quoting Clause 4-f6 of the part constitution, which states that each constituency shall elect a candidate to represent them at general, local and bye elections.
