Acting Mayor to account for $35,000
The Acting Mayor of Freetown City Council, Gibril Alhaji Kanu (in photo) is accused to have sold radio station equipment bought by the suspended Mayor, Herbert George William valued at $35,000.
Sources close to this medium revealed that Mr. Kanu decided to sell the radio station equipment based on an advice which the FCC’s procurement officer gave him. According to reports the equipment were bought by Mayor Herbert George Williams to run a commercial radio station but the Independent Media Commission (IMC) placed a ban on it because it was all an organ to propagate as the mouthpiece of the ruling party.
Mr. Kanu according to our source banked upon the fact that the equipment will never be of use for the FCC. The machines are reportedly costing US $9,000, and advertently being sold at for $3,500. Other sources have maintained that the equipment was sold at an auction price, and yet the proceeds are yet to be accounted by the acting Mayor.
