Court remands six drug peddlers

Unisa Bangura of No 20 G Mount Aureole Terrace, Freetown,  Chernor Brima Bah of No 17 Regent Road, Freetown, Ibrahim Sorie Bangura of No 18 Sackville Street, Freetown, Thaimu Sesay of Jui Police Barracks, Freetown, Ibrahim Kabba of No 31 Easton Street, Freetown, and Mohamed Sesay of No 12 Greene Street, Freetown, were arraigned before Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No 1.

They were charged for peddling drugs without official license an offence contrary to Section 17 and 59(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act 2001.

The accused persons were arrested on April 25 this year at about 2 pm in the western business district of Freetown, in the Republic of Sierra Leone. They were found in possession of counterfeit class (c) drugs which include pain killer capsules and tablets, Ferritone capsules, each capsule  contains ferrous fumerate BP200, Fefol-Gem tablets, Ferrous sulfate and Folic Acid tables, Red iron tablets, Multivitamin tablets, each sugar coated tablet contains vitamin A  and other pain remover tablets.

Emmanuel Teddy Koroma, the defence counsel for the accused persons pleaded for bail on their behalf on grounds that they are first-time offenders of the law. Sgt. Sanjah M 3593 Court prosecutor objected to the bail on the grounds that medicine sellers fund of the habit of peddling drugs they’ve not hold license for. The accused were remanded.
