Police say missing children is on the increase

Isatu labeie at about 8 p.m.  reported herself at the Eastern Police  with a fish tray in her hand and told the police officers that  she is living with her aunt by the name of Isatu at the Mabala Community in Freetown. According to the line manager of the Eastern Police division Hawada Kuyateh, Isatu Labbie has been in the police station for three weeks now without any body reporting a matter of missing child.

Another child, 9 year old Isata Bangura was found at 6:00 p.m.  She identified herself as a student attending the Marie Vandy Primary School, Shell New Road, and resides around St Helena Secondary School Kissy area.  She said she came to town with her older sister to buy some sweets and her sister left her behind.  She has been at the station now for 5 days!

There are two other small children at the station who do not speak well.

According to Hawaeda Kuyateh the Lind manager of the Eastern Police FSU, the rate at which children are missing is a cause for concern, noting that this year alone the division has on record 30 children.

Social worker Mr. Samuel Trye at the Eastern police and the Ross Road police divisions said the police do not have the funds to take care of these children, nor does the Ministry of Social welfare aid these children to find their respective homes.

According to DWPC 10039 Fatmata Mansaray, she said she has been taking care of these children with support from no one.
