ASP Samura Justifies Police Brutality

Assistant Superintendent of Police and head of the police media, Ibrahim Samura, commented over the recent spate of violence by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) over an industrial strike action protested by African Mineral workers in Bumbuna calling for an indictment or enquiry.

The comments made by the ASP in certain media institutions are considered as derogatory and irresponsible.  The ASP is on record to have justified police brutality on several occasions, without being checked by this medium, by the look of things it is believed that the ASP had overstepped his bounds, neglecting the principal mandate of the police institution, which is to protect life and property and not the other way round.

Shortsighted as the ASP looks he seems to have forgotten the fact that the recruitment process by which some of these police officers are recruited is not as effective as one thinks, a lot of the newly recruited police officers are half baked  and some of them have serious character impairment, so how can they effectively manage the rules of engagement in such a situation?

This reportere finds it a twist of the true picture when the ASP was seen making comments on the State Broadcasting medium (SLBC) sing-praising President Koroma’s attitudinal investment initiative, but paints the true picture of Mr. fix-it each time police commit another blunder. The climax of it all is the shortsighted comment he made that the protest action might tempt the company to wind up, I don’t know in which capacity he was talking.

Is he now the Chief Executive Officers of African Mineral Limited (AML), or the official AML police spokesman?  I believe that the ASP is ignorant of the fact that every multi-million dollar company such as the (AML) is faced with such perennial problems  the world over, especially in a country where the gap between the rich and the poor is stretched.
