TTJ to promote President Koroma’s non-violence campaign

The Top Jammers (TTJ) Social Club was founded in 1985 with the sole aim of promoting social activities and youth development in the country. As a father to so many social clubs in the country, TTJ is well recognized to be the first organizers of a national musical concert at the National Stadium in 2003. This show did not only unite musicians that had grudge for each other (for instance Jimmy B and K-Man), it has created the avenue for most Sierra Leonean musicians and show promoters to use the National Stadium as a venue for album launch and other social events.  (Photo: Executive members of TTJ saying no to violence)

Proceeds from those events were used to provide scholarship package to selected school pupils. The Club has also succeeded in sending four of its members to develop their career abroad as part of their empowerment program. They are also known to be promoters of sports in the country. This, they have exhibited in several football competitions where anti-violence messages are sent out.

Those in the Central part of Freetown will never forget the annual Easter Monday Jamboree for children organized by TTJ at the National Stadium Swimming Pool. This event serves as fundraising for school going pupils, and also encourages the future leaders be roll models the entertainment industry.

As the 2012 elections approach, members of TTJ have put in place mechanisms to bring together over four hundred social clubs in the country as an anti-violence campaign that will instil unity amongst youths in the country.

Ibrahim Bangura is the current Secretary General of TTJ. He informed this press that plans are on the table to organize a musical concert at the National Stadium on June 16, 2012. The event, he said will serve as an opportunity to say thanks to President Koroma for his exemplary leadership qualities demonstrated over the years. The Secretary General reiterated the fact that social clubs are meant for community development and not cultism or violence. “This is what we intend to teach the youths of today. They are to serve as brighter examples to national development,” says Mr. Bangura.

As the motto of TTJ implies: “Together as one”, Bangura is optimistic that they will succeed in implementing the President’s aspiration to ensure a violence free elections, come November 17, 2012.

The Musical Concert will be preceded by a march pass from Kissy Road Up Gun Roundabout unto the National Stadium on 15th June 2012. This, according to the Secretary General, will enable the various Social Clubs to send out unity messages to the various social groups that are perpetrating violence.
