Hotel 5:10 hosts 112 IAMTECH students

Saturday 7th April, 2012 – The Institute of Advanced Management and Technology (IAMTECH) held its graduation ceremony for the confirmation of degrees and award of diplomas and certificates to 112 students who completed courses in Development Studies, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Accounting and Finance, Applied Economics and Marketing, Logistics and Procurement, Networking and a host of other programs, at the Amphitheatre of Hotel 5:10, Kissy, Freetown.  (Photo: IAMTECH Students awaiting confirmation of degrees award of diplomas and certificates)

This national event does not only shower praise for the teachers of this country for erecting an ultramodern hotel but divine blessings for them and their families were also invoked. Extracts of these blessings state:

“Allah blessed the teachers of this country for their immense contributions in putting up this structure that is hosting those that have contributed, is contributing, and will soon contribute to the development of “Mama Salone”.

“Lord Jesus Christ, we blessed you for granting us grace. Lord in a special way we pray for your protection and divine favour for the teachers in this country. Lord we know that they have put together their meager resources just to erect this building that is hosting this national event today”. These were prayers offered by reputable men and women of God at this august ceremony.

It could be recalled that the executive of the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) years back put ideas together aimed to address the plight of accommodation faced by provincial teachers in the city. On this hallmark, the hotel was constructed under high financial pressure including loans from banks just to meet to the passion they have for their members. Occupying a room costs Le 22,000 for teachers and $60 for non-teachers per day.

Today, the hotel is not only serving the initial purpose for which it was constructed but has also moved one step to bring an educational brainwave to residents in the east end of Freetown.  “I thank God for the SLTU. At least, they have created the opportunity for us, including our children, to know the joy of education at university level.  I trust God that my child will put on the same gown in the not too distant future,” a business woman at the function uttered with joy.

“I am one of those teachers that has been vehemently opposing the steps taken by the executive of the union to use our monies to erect Hotel 5:10.  I have always thought it would never serve me in any capacity. But today, the hotel is hosting my institution of which I am one of those whose degree will be confirmed by the Vice Chancellor of Njala University. I am proud to be part of the union,” Mohamed Kamara expressed with deep remorse.

In life, he said, I came to realize that “one should never say never”. It is clear that Mohamed was one of those that has been brainwashed to the extent that he will never see anything good from the union.  But the hosting of this national event has impacted wisdom in his brain and the essence of having such a hotel in the east.

Those who are acquainted with the work will agree with this medium that the union has embarked on so many developmental programs for it members. Among which is the introduction of Peace Education and yearly in-service training for untrained and unqualified teachers in the country.
