Ambassador Bassir presents credentials to president of Mauritania

Presenting, her Letters of Credence, Ambassador Bassir conveyed President Ernest Bai Koroma’s warm fraternal greetings, informing him of government’s wish to strengthen and further promote the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and peoples. She stressed on the areas of trade, culture and other related that will bring the two countries even more closed.

Responding, President Aziz extended his best wishes to President Koroma and the people of Sierra Leone. He expressed satisfaction that the bilateral relationship between the two countries are being strengthen and promised his government’s commitment and support.

He said that he is happy that Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir had met with the Mauritania Chambers of Commerce and hoped that their discussions would lead to the exchange of ideas and trade.

In her discussion with the Foreign Affairs Minister Hamadi Ould Hamadi, Ambassador Bassir expressed warm fraternal felicitation from Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister Joseph Dauda, stressing the Foreign Minister’s commitment to promoting the bilateral ties between the two countries. “Sierra Leone is ready to strengthen the economic, cultural and already good political cooperation with Mauritania and my government look forward to more strategic cooperation in terms of trade in marine resources, transport and other related areas of mutual benefits” she said.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that his country is keen on expanding the cooperation between the two nations. “We are aware that Malaysia benefitted from Sierra Leone’s agro business especially in the area of palm oil. My government would also like to positively look into that area, as well as the transport industry” he noted. He promised socio- economic and political cooperation.

Ambassador Bassir also took the opportunity to meet with the consortium of Business interests in Mauritania, especially in the areas of Marine and Fisheries and multicultural business. The President of the Business Association in Mauritania promised to introduce and establish   businesses in Sierra Leone soonest.

H.E Ambassador Bassir was taken on a conducted tour of a Fishing Company and Fish Mill factory in the outskirts of Nouakchott, where she was able to hold fruitful discussions with the owners. She promised once back home to have concrete discussions with authorities in the Marine Sector.
