Africell support Salone Leone Red Cross @ 50
The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) is one of 187 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, established by the Government of Sierra Leone through an Act of Parliament in July 1962. It is an auxiliary to the government particularly in the humanitarian sector and provides a range of services including Disaster Management and Restoring family links, disaster preparedness, relief, health and social services, advocacy and information dissemination and campaigns.
The good adventures of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society is very much appreciated by Sierra Leoneans, this is why one of the leading GMS operators in the country, Africell (SL) Limited has decided to join the Red Cross family in their development activities. The three times National Award Winning Communication Company of the Year is the lead sponsor of the celebration of the SLRCS’ Golden Jubilee Celebration in the country.
The Celebration was commenced with a march pass, which started at the Attouga Mini Stadium unto the National Stadium Perimeter.
Africell’s Media Relations Supervisor informed this press that they joined the Red Cross Family because they want to ensure, as the vision of the SLRCS implies, ‘a strong Red Cross for better Sierra Leone. ‘He noted that they are empowering the Red Cross to make a difference in the live of vulnerable communities in partnership with stakeholders.
Africell’s Head of Section Communication, Ishmael Bull informed the gathering that they are extremely happy to join the all important Red Cross family in celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of existence in Sierra Leone. Their relationship with the Red Cross Society, he said will go a very long way, and admonished staff and volunteers not to relent in their humanitarian service to the nation. Mr. Bull promised his company’s continuous support towards the activities of SLRCS.
The National President of SLRCS, Edward Tamba Ngandi said the float parade si aimed at telling the entire nation about their existence. He commended Africell for patronizing with the Red Cross family in the country. He confessed that he is now an admirer of the GMS Giant, adding that Africell will now be his number one.
The National President encouraged his colleagues and volunteers to come on board the Africell family so that they help in developing Sierra Leone.
He noted that membership of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society is open to everyone irrespective of race, sex, class, religion or political affiliation.
The celebration continues on May 7, 2012 when the SLRCS is expected to have a candle Light procession in the country.
