Taking clues from Sapateh’s Decree

The popular decision put out by the head of West Africa Examinations Council, Mohamed Sapateh, does not truly reflect rationality but a show of impulse. It is believed that such a decision is an infringement on the rights of the child to be educated. It is a factual truth that our society is faced with some serious economic challenges and some of these challenges affect the girl child, the fact that some of them have to fend for themselves is a clear picture of the truth in our society. As a credible academic institution of such nature, decisions must reflect reason and must not be seen as contradiction to the academic norms and principles of the system.

The 6334 academic system simply means education for all and not education for few, if that is so actions must speak volumes of the fact. When Mohamed made this statement, we don’t know from which angle of justice he is coming from, or if he is acting in line with the academic act.

We at Sierra Express Media demand to know why a man of such status and caliber has decided to avoid supporting his calculative decision with a portion of an excerpt or section from the academic act. Besides, SEM considers such action as expunge to the universal child’s right convention and also a limitation to the academic ambition of the girl child to empower themselves for the futures of our country.
