GSM users demand Units to Leones recharge system
NATCOM’s interactive session last week witnessed the scene wherein consumers were calling on operators as well as NATCOM to convert bills charged by cell phone companies from units to Leones. The issue became topical when consumers requested NATCOM to implement the Act in Parliament for all operators to bill in Leones as is the case in most countries.
Charles Mambu of the Coalition of Civil Society and a human rights activist stated that the change from units to Leones should not even be negotiated with operators as it is an Act of Parliament and a policy NATCOM should implement.
According to Mr. Mambu, in other countries operators adhere to the rules and regulations governing their operations and underscored that it is incumbent on NATCOM to implement the Act and not to negotiate with operators who are in the habit of paying their regulatory fees by installment thus starving the Commission of much-needed funds.
Other stakeholders also prevailed on NATCOM to be firm in dealing with operators as other countries are very strict on compliance.
