Mr. Idiot 15 March
The Road To Kailahun – Newspapers have made all sorts of reports about the case of Tom Nyuma, the chairman of the Kailahun District Council who has recently joined the ruling All People’s Congress party.
Nyuma has said he is exercising his democratic rights and that he had no permanent agreement with the SLPP of which he was a member.
The noise over Nyuma’s decision continues to resound all over the country and even beyond. The bottom line being that Nyuma has betrayed his own people.
But to the APC, Nyuma is the greatest catch they have secured as far as the political atmosphere is concerned, and this is what is of paramount importance to them.
There is also the divide between the Kissys and the Mendes with the former declaring they have been marginalized by the latter.
The last time the Vice President was in Kailahun, the Kissys in Buedu had complained that they do not have a radio station and that they have to depend on Radio Moa which they see as not part of their own purview. One wonders if Nyuma’s defection might not be unconnected with the great and widening divide between the Kissys and the Mendes in Kailahun. More to follow on the unfolding saga
In Search Of Maada Bio – Where is Maada Bio, the self proclaimed Brigadier General who had the temerity to promote himself after overthrowing his junta boss?
One would well imagine what will take place if Valentine Strasser, the man who promoted Bio to be his vice president one day confronts his former second in command.
Now Bio is planning on being the next president of Sierra Leone, a situation he seems to be actively prepared to carry out to the letter, the only problem is that in the game of democracy, votes, not guns reign. One wonders if Kailahun Court Barray will be able to help Bio this time. Can Bio succeed where Berewa has failed? Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. We shall wait for November 2012.
John Benjamin’s Nemesis – John Benjamin has become the most confused man in the whole of the SLPP hierarchy. Here is a man who has nurtured Nyuma with the hope that the ‘Boy’ will be his political stooge. But Nyuma seems to have finally cut off the strings attaching him to his former puppet master and this is what rankles JOB more than any other betrayal.
Why should Nyuma abandon the SLPP after all the feeding he has received from his masters? Why should Nyuma decide to join Ernest Bai Koroma and leave his own kith and kin? These are the questions that have been attacking the conscience and mind of John Benjamin.
What Benjamin has failed to realize is that there comes a time when the child grows up and leaves his parents. This shows Nyuma is now politically matured and is now prepared to start his own life. This is the situation in the case of Tom Nyuma who has clearly shown he is now a big boy as he opts for another political party. It is all under democracy you know.
NEC’s Receptionist Problems – The National Electoral Commission’s receptionist is clearly a woman who needs an education in attitude. The fact that the receptionist has such a negative manner of receiving guests speaks millions for the disaster waiting to occur if immediate moves are not taken to change the situation in the NEC office.
Whenever people go to the NEC office, it is the usual occurrence to see a very unsmiling receptionist frowning at visitors. Those who cannot help it can notice that even though visitors are expected, it is harrowing to see that the reception prefers to cause obstacles to visitors.
The NEC office is a public place and is supposed to serve the public. It is therefore important that visitors are given the rightful reception as they are all part of the public domain. Dr. Thorpe should therefore be informed about this negative action by the reception for she is occupying a public office and not her own private property.
Sack The Finance Minister – The worse case scenario which is presently affecting Sierra Leoneans is the lack of money in the banks. One would expect to see money whenever one goes to the bank, but in Sierra Leone today, you go to the banks and they tell you there is no money.
Where has the money gone? This is the question we will want to know. Why is it that depositors go to the banks only to be informed that there is no money in the vaults.
Are we returning to the past ugly days of Joseph Saidu Momoh’s economic emergency period when the banks were permanently cash strapped?
President Ernest Bai Koroma should stand strong as his government is clearly on the brink of another economic disaster. In such a scenario, the only option is to sack the Minister of Finance with immediate effect. A minister of finance who does not know how to maintain money in the bank should not be allowed to sit in that office.
The explanation by Information Minister Alhaji I.B. Kargbo that they never foresaw the shortage as they had not considered the new companies like London Mining and African Minerals shows that the finance ministry is in a total disarray. Sack the finance minister now before the country grounds to a halt.
