Students attack Finance Minister

A cross section of students from the different constituent colleges who partook recently in the National Public Expenditure Tracking Survey (PETS) last week Friday took to protest over their owed stipends.

Sierra Express Media understands that the Ministry of Finance owed them a stipend sum which caused the protest to have the Minister to comply with their demands. These students brandishing protest cards later pursued their grievances to President Koroma.

Speaking on-behalf of the students, Abdul R. Conteh a final year student at Fourah Bay College said they felt insulted by the manner in which the Minister of Finance treated them.

“Having done such a tedious job for the Ministry of Finance”, he says, “it is insulting to keep us waiting for a little stipend that they owed us”, Conteh fumed.

However, Mohamed Kamara, a student of Njala University among the protesters told this Reporter that he was appalled to see the Ministry of Finance itch over a meager sum of a stipend they owed them. “The Minister and team are aware of the fact that some of us are students who are cash-strapped”, he stated.

Such a treatment, he said “I consider as inhumane and a cheat on our hard earned labour” he states.

Meanwhile, the student party reached a settlement point with the Ministry at State Avenue to receive their monies latest by Monday, March 12 upon president Koroma’s intervention.
