Shortage of currency – New bank notes to be printed by Govt.
There has been a serious shortage of currency in the country and this has caused Information and Communications Minister Hon. I.B, Kargbo to assail the fears of the public by announcing that the government will soon print new bank notes. This was revealed by the government spokesperson during the weekly press briefing recently.
Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo told journalists that the unavailability of cash in banks across the country has become a serious concern for the incumbent All People Congress.
He however assured that the shortage of currency in banks does not imply that the government does not have enough money in the Central Banks but is “as a result of the intensive economy activities of mining companies that were not taking into consideration when the resized bank notes were about to be printed,” he said.
The Information Minister stated that the bank governor has resolved to print additional bank notes to match up to the current economic activities thereby bringing to rest the problem of currency shortage in the country.
It could be recalled that the amount of money spent, and the quantum of resized notes printed, was not made public by the bank governor regardless of the degree of pressure mounted by press houses.
