Blind School gets braille HIV/Aids info

The communications officer for the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat, Abu Bakarr Kargbo on Monday November, 23rd November 2009 disclosed that his secretariat has prepared five hundred braille copies with information about HIV/AIDS for the Blind School.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting at NAS headquarters in Brookfield, Freetown, in preparation of lined up activities to celebrate World Aids Day, Mr. Kargbo said HIV/AIDS education programme must target every group in society. He said even the blind people must not be excluded. “Because they too are engaged in sexual and other activities that are vulnerable to the acquisition of the disease,” Mr. Kargbo said, adding that this is the first time blind students are getting information about HIV/AIDS in braille.

In another development, an essay writing competition on HIV/AIDS is also going to be launched for school going children. This is geared towards involving children in the HIV/AIDS prevention campaign. The winning essays are going to be published in news letters, bulletins, calendars etc.
