Husband in court for beating wife

Domestic violence has been a norm day after day in most African societies.  Gina Mansaray, a petty trader endured a merciless beating by her husband, Sorie Conteh Tuesday 14th.

Gina suffered a fractured rib, three broken fingers on her left hand, a swollen right eye and bruises all over her body.

She is reportedly beaten by husband because she returned home late from selling her business commodities.

At approximately 7:20 pm, Gina returned home from the Dough Court market after a long hard working day, and was greeted by an infuriated partner.

“wae ar kormor sell, ar mit mi man na os in vex vex wan. E ask mi osai ar bin dae wae na naw ar dae kam na os. Bifo ar dea ansa am, ar jos fil blak awt. E punch mi na mi yay.” Gina told Magistrate court 2.

Gina said on her arrival home, she was questioned by her fiancée and before she could give an answer, she received a shocker blow on her right eye, forcefully laid her on the ground outside the house and manhandled her severely.

“He beats me to satisfaction and stripped me naked,” Gina told court 2.

She stated that she pretended to be unconscious as she was already embarrassed by the presence of her neighbors and passers-by, who had gathered around.

Gina later tendered a carrier bag, opened it and displayed scraps of shredded clothes (brown and white) in colour, and claimed it was the dress she was wearing on the eve of the incident.

That she was taken to a near-by “pepper doctor” for immediate treatment and later referred to the Emergency hospital at Goderich the following day on 15th February.

After several cross examinations and scans, Gina was allowed to report the incident at the Lumley police station.

From the causes apparent, it is understood that Sorie Conteh a mechanic, is rather a very vicious, high tempered individual who gets easily irritated and jealous on the simplest of things.

Gina had consecutively been arriving home late from the market for over two weeks since the start of the New Year, her partner was trying to justify in court.

Gina has been a petty trader for over 6 years now and has never before had this issue of arriving home so late in the evening, he said.

According to her lawyer, Gina claims that since the New Year, she became a fish monger and was obligated to stay behind a few extra hours to ensure that all her stock was sold off.

A trade she had switched over to from her previous norm of selling rice and other basic food necessities.

The first three days Gina started to arrive late, her partner would nag and query her on her where about.
