Husband sells in-law for Le8M
Samuel Kamara, Wednesday 8th , was arraigned before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court 2 to answer to a one count charge of human trading.
The accused is a resident of Four Mile town. In his testimony, the witness Saio told the court that he was at the house of the accused at Newton in the Waterloo Rural District when the accused asked him (Saio), who also doubles as herbalist, if he is interested in the buying of humans.
Saio was shocked to hear such a statement and wasted no time, but alerted the police at Newton town, who eventually arrested the accused.
Saio said, however, that the police purported to be businessmen interested in the buying of human beings.
It was agreed that the police and the accused should meet at the witness’s resident at Newton to transact business.
Later, he said, the police caught the accused at the appointed ‘meeting point’ to pretentiously transact the human trade.
The accused was with a boy Mohamed Kamara, to be sold to the undercover police officers.
Shortly after an agreement in price (Le 8 million) was reached at between the accused and the purported buyers, the police later identified themselves and eventually arrested Samuel Kamara.
Mohamed (the victim and brother of the wife of the accused) was told by the accused that he was taking him to a traditional healer to superstitiously wash his body.
The accused who had earlier pleaded not guilty was refused bail and remanded in custody. The matter was adjourned to a later date.
