Ambassador of Austria pays courtesy call on Ambassador Bassir

The Ambassador of Austria to Senegal who is also accredited to Sierra Leone H.E. Gerhard Diess yesterday paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir at the Sierra Leone Embassy in down town Dakar.

He said the purpose of his visit was to meet his counterparts Ambassadors to whose countries he is also accredited to and to discuss issues of importance to both countries.

Both Ambassadors discussed wide ranging issues, bordering on business opportunities, education, Man Power Training and bilateral relationship.

Speaking, Ambassador Bassir welcomed Ambassador Diess and thanked him for his Government’s support for the Peace Building Commission and the provision of training for Sierra Leonean Diplomats. She asked of Ambassador Diess’s Government to consider offering Vocational Training to our middle level man power and that also of short courses for Medical students.

When asked of the present security situation in Sierra Leone and that of the coming elections, in November, Ambassador Bassir replied “The country as a whole is calm and quiet and hoping for a peaceful democratic elections” She highlighted major issues regarding road infrastructure, health, agriculture and energy that the government had impacted upon.

According to H.E. Ambassador Gerhard Diess, his Government had received reports of mass improvement in all sectors in Sierra Leone.  He informed that his Government is putting the necessary modalities in place to re-open the Honorary Consulate Office in Freetown.

Ambassador Gerhard Diess is yet to present his letter of credence to President Ernest Bai Koroma, for which he requested his counterpart to accelerate the process.
