Dr. Kargbo declares for APC Symbol
Dr. Roland Foday Kargbo, a renowned philanthropist working in the sphere of humanitarian services in the country, Saturday 21st January affirmed his intention to contest for Parliament under the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party, in constituency 036, in the 2012 elections.
Addressing a crowd of over five thousand persons in the Kamakwe court Barray, the symbol aspiring candidate said, for a very long time the people of Sella Limba and Tambakha Chiefdoms have experienced undue suffering in the area of social amenities which include the poor school makeshifts, teacher training facilities, medical facilities, decaying and non-existing road infrastructure, and poor farming material system.
He said the Sella Limba children are among the most brilliant chaps in the country but are crippled of the opportunities to progress, which he attributed to abject poverty and level of obscurity the girls and women of that part of the country are going through.
Dr. Kargbo said he is aware of the fact that his people might need a helping hand from the government and people of good will, but opined that such aid should be expected from not only men and women of good will but of proven determinations to lead the army of progress and development.
He said: “These must be people with the ability to knock at every door of opportunities for the progress of their people”.
Dr. Kargbo said the prayer of Sierra Leoneans for God to provide them leaders of morals, sympathy and empathy answered with the emergence of president Ernest Bai Koroma as leader and fountain of honor of the state, adding that it same has answered in his person who has had the heart of a Samaritan with a quest to salvage the needs of his people.
The learned Doctor hails from the two chiefdoms and has a record of immense contribution towards the chiefdoms’ socio-economic development.
Doctor Kargbo used the opportunity to educate his people on the importance of the biometric system of voters’ registration for the forthcoming elections: “It is the only way that enables you to exercise your franchise right as citizens of this country”, he said. The voters’ Identity Card, he adds, would be of help to the bearers in terms of securing jobs and monetary transactions, while he said they can use same to access their national identity card.
Speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chiefs and people of the two chiefdoms, Mr. Wusu Samura said Dr. Kargbo would be the right person to be awarded the symbol ticket on grounds that he has contributed immensely in the area of improving education and agriculture in the two communities. “We speak in one tongue to seal the candidature of Dr. Kargbo for Constituency 036 for the APC symbol,” Mr. Wusu Samura expressed.
Dr. Kargbo has served as in the capacity of teacher in Mambolo northern Sierra Leone, has been a Principal at the Gbendembu Secondary School Kalamgba also in the north. He has also occupied the status of Director of Education at the Baptist Convention. Over and above he has been the founder and former Executive Director of a leading child protection agency, Help a Needy Child in Sierra Leone (HANCI/SL).
