Police defer ‘passing out’ assembly

The ‘passing out’ of about eight hundred police recruits once programmed for Saturday 21st has been deferred to Saturday 28th; and no reason given.

Police headquarter sources say that the passing out meeting has been adjourned due to lack of funds.

But police’s head of media Assistant Superintendent Ibrahim Samura said no reason was given for the postponement of the event.

He said however that assertion of persons concerning lack of funds is unfounded.

“No. It is not true that the postponement of the passing out ceremony was due to lack of funds,” ASP Samura acknowledged.

“Invitations have already been printed; and it sounds funny printing invitations when funds are not available. “

Investigations are that it is the second time the passing out ceremony of recruit police officers currently receiving training at Hastings is postponed.

Some recruits who pleaded with this press not to have their names mentioned said it has been the cry of senior police officers that the postponement of the event is due to the apparent lack of funds.

Our Sources revealed also that another reason for the postponement of the event is that the presence of President Koroma is needed.

It is a fact that the President is to take the Presidential salute and must be present during the ceremony.

Reports have it that there is resentment from among the recruits, who say that postponement of the passing out is uncalled for and inhuman of the police management.

Assertions of number of the recruits are that resources set aside for the ceremony are believed to have been used elsewhere; apparently unimportant issues.
