AWOL elects Navo as chairman
Anthony Navo Jr. the National Youth Ambassador, was on Friday, 6th January, 2012 elected as the new Chairman of All Works of Life (AWOL) at an auspicious ceremony held at the prestigious Old School Complex, Hill Station, Freetown.
Delivering his statement, the outgoing Chairman of AWOL, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah aka Chericoco, thanked the past executive members of AWOL for their unflinching support over the years.
He stated that he felt honored to have served as Chairman of AWOL and promised that he will always remain grateful and committed in supporting the progress of the organization. He assured the membership that he believes in the new Chairman, as according to him, Mr. Navo will push the organization forward. He appealed to them to support the new leadership so that the organization will achieve its objectives.
Swearing-in the new Chairman, Lawyer Leon Jenkins-Johnston encouraged Mr. Navo to work according to the policies of the organization and to ensure that he puts Sierra Leone first in executing his responsibilities.
He described the new Chairman as a reputable businessman who owns Navo’s International; whilst he is also Director of Communications of the African Minerals; the Deputy Chairman of East End Lions FC, and also a very strong member of East End Paddle Odele Society. He further paid glowing tribute to the outgoing Chairman, who he described as a fine gentleman whose tenure had been very eventful and progressive. He called on the organization’s members to support the new Chairman so that they can together achieve their goals.
Delivering his maiden speech, Mr. Navo commended the outgoing Chairman for what he referred to as a work well done. He disclosed that he enjoyed working with Mr. Chernor Bah as his Deputy from whom he said he learnt a lot of valuable leadership skills.
He revealed that he intends to establish a professional AWOL Secretariat where the activities of the organization would be facilitated by qualified staff.
He commended Mr. Nasiru Carew aka Akpata for providing the structure for the organization. He also thanked the anonymous individual who donated the sum of ten thousand US dollars ($10,000) for the furnishing of the Secretariat.
He further pointed out that he was going to engage in aggressive fund-raising efforts to raise money for the construction of a state-of-the-art amphitheatre for the organization.
He maintained that they will raise the award of scholarships to include more girls across the country.
Furthermore, he stated that as Youth Ambassador, he was going to use his office to advocate for the creation of more jobs and for the rights of youths in the country.
He commended the membership of AWOL for their unflinching support over the years and called on them to work with him to achieve the organization’s objectives.
