China set for official launch of APC Asia branch
In trying to galvanize support for, and ensure the continuous existence of the party, members of the All Peoples Congress in Beijing, China are finalizing modalities aimed at officially launching the Asia Branch of the party in Beijing, China.
Slated for Sunday 18th December in Beijing, China, the official launch of the Asia Branch of the APC party is expected to draw dignitaries from across China and from Sierra Leone, under the distinguished grand chief patronage of the National Secretary General for the APC, Mr. Victor Bockarie Foe and Mr. Leonard Logus Koroma, APC National Coordinator for the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The formation of the Asia Branch of the APC came as a result of efforts by members of the party in China to garner support and ensure membership drive at the Diaspora level and also a way of working towards victory for the party at election periods.
Speaking on Friday December 16th at the APC Asia Branch office at Zi Hui Chao Chaoyang District, Beijing, China, Mr. Lamin Turay, Chairman for the Asia Branch explained, that they decided to form the Asia Branch “since most of us have been here for years and we have seen the good works of President Koroma and the APC party especially in terms of moving along with the Agenda for Change”. This according to Turay calls for the greater need for them as members of the party to contribute to the development of the country “…we definitely would need to give support to the President’s Agenda for Change and ensure the APC is voted in 2012…”
Explaining further, Chairman Turay stated, that the membership of the branch has ensure modalities are put in place for the official launch of the branch on the 18th of December and that “all what we have done came as a result of the personal contributions, through donations of members… this is one of several ways we can support the President and the country because he (President Koroma) is development oriented…”
Meanwhile, over 400 Sierra Leoneans across China are expected to witness the occasion in Beijing. This event is surely seen by many as another landmark in the political history of the ruling party in Sierra Leone and especially for the Secretary General, Victor Bockarie Foe, under whose tenure the Asia Branch will be officially launched for party functions in Beijing and the whole of Asia.
Historically, China has been a strategic partner in Sierra Leone’s development, especially since 1971 when the then APC government of President Siaka Stevens signed a communiqué on the establishment of Diplomatic Relations, which was in accordance with the interests and wishes of the people of the two countries.
Since the establishment of such diplomatic relations, China has largely helped in Sierra Leone’s development efforts with reference to the creation of the National Stadium, YouyiBuilding, and construction of bridges, among others. China has also been accepting Sierra Leonean students for further studies since 1976. The establishment of the Asia Branch of the ruling All Peoples Congress party in Beijing, China will also go a long way in strengthening the relationship between the two countries, taking into account the fact that this is the first time for such positive developments to occur between China and Sierra Leone at a party level.
