Ambassador Joseph Koroma makes courtesy call to Chinese Special Envoy to Sierra Leone on the 50th Independence Anniversary
BEIJING – Sierra Leone Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China HE Mr. Joseph Mono Koroma and Deputy Ambassador Idrissa Mohamed Funna made a courtesy call today on Mr. Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China on his assignment as Special Envoy of President Hu Jintao to Sierra Leone’s 50th independence anniversary, April 27th. Ambassador Koroma expressed his happiness for the Minister for the confidence imposed on him to represent the people and government of China in this wonderful ceremony in the history of Sierra Leone. He further mentioned that this year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sierra Leone and the People’s Republic of China.
Ambassador Koroma thanked the Minister for the assistance Sierra Leone is receiving from the Government and people of China, especially in the area of agriculture which the ambassador described as a priority area for the people of Sierra Leone and the government. The ambassador went further to inform the minister of agriculture that their assistance in the agricultural sector has yielded some fruits in the country’s fight to achieve food sufficiency, especially in the production of the country’s staple food – rice. “But this needs to be scaled-up through value addition industries with the objective of creating sustainable employment for all classes of people in the country”, Ambassador Koroma emphasized.
In his response, the Minister thanked HE Koroma and entourage for the courtesy call on him and expressed his appreciation for sentiments expressed about the good results of the assistance his country has given to Sierra Leone, especially in the field of agriculture. The Minister went further to reassure Ambassador Koroma of China’s continued support to the government and people of Sierra Leone in agriculture and other vital sectors that can help boost the country’s economy. The Minister ended up by wishing Ambassador Koroma a successful tenure of office in China.
HE Ambassador Koroma briefed the special envoy about the programme of his visit whilst in Sierra Leone, and later accompanied Mr. Han Changfu to the Beijing International Airport as he departed to Sierra Leone.
