COP 17 Africa Day: Africa’s future must be green or thre will be no future
“Our future has to be green or there will be no future, we have no plan B, we shall not give up the fight”, declared Meles Zenawi, Ethiopia’s prime minister while speaking to thousands of delegates that participated at the COP 17 Africa day. The 17th conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, popularly known as COP-17, is taking place in Durban, South Africa.
The Ethiopian Prime minister congratulated the African governments inDurbanfor speaking in “one voice” as he shared “Africa’s three-fold message to COP 17”. First, all efforts must be made to avoid a vacuum after theKyotoprotocol set to expire next year. Secondly, climate financing forAfrica’s mitigation and adaptation efforts must be ensured and finally, he called for continued support of new innovations, entrepreneurship and technology transfer amongst various parties involved.
