SLCDT Steering Committee meets in Freetown
Freetown- The Steering Committee (SC) of the Sierra Leone Conference on Development and Transformation will meet at State House in Freetown on Wednesday 23rd November, 2011.
The meeting will be the second major gathering of the Steering Committee members towards the organisation of the conference announced by President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on the eve of the commemoration of the country’s 50th independence anniversary. The Conference Secretariat is expected to present a progress report to the SC in preparation for the Technical Workshops and the Conference event in mid December.
Addressing the members of the committee in the inaugural meeting in September, President Koroma who chairs the Steering Committee said the country must transform itself to a middle-income nation through its human and natural resources potential. ‘’We must take bold decisions, clear strategies and design a road map for the country’s development’’, said President Koroma.
The Steering Committee which comprises representatives of registered political parties, inter-religious council, CSOs, local councils, major MDAs, professional organizations, women and youth groups across the country; will discuss the conference’s progress report and provide guidance and direction to tackle emerging challenging issues.
The conference in December will bring together Sierra Leonean specialists both within the country and in the Diaspora, complemented by internationally reputed development practitioners, and in consultation with a cross section of the population to rethink the development process and provide options for the country’s immediate, medium term and long term development goals.
