Tanzanian Government Minister lauds Rising Stars football clinic
Charles Kitwanga, deputy minister of Communications, Science and Technology on Wednesday lauded the Rising Star initiative, he said he is pleased to see Airtel working in collaboration with Manchester United football club to support the development of youth football, he called on Airtel to carry on with the initiative which he said will surely help to strengthen football in his country. The deputy minister made this statement when he visited the training camp of the Airtel Rising Stars football clinic at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday afternoon, Charles Kitwanga also heard briefings from head coach of the rising star football clinic, Biller Miller who explained to the deputy minister the main focus of the special training methods that the kids included in the “Learn to play the United Way”. He told Charles Kitwanga that the main routine imparted to the kids involve attitude, behaviour, communication, discipline, enthusiasm and fair play.

“We promise government will continue to ensure conducive environment for investors to operate so they can properly be motivated and able to help invest in the development of football,” said Charles Kitwanga.
Also present at today’s training session was the Secretary General of the Tanzanian Football Federation, Angetile Osiah, national team coach Jan Poulsen, head coach of team the national youth, Kim Poulsen and Airtel Tanzania Marketing Director, Cheikh Sarr.

One of the Sierra Leonean youngsters Mariatu Conteh joined her other compatriots by scooping recognition for good performance on Day 4 of the training session. Mariatu Conteh who has fought hard to adapt in her new surroundings said she was happy not only for the medal but she now felt more better as a player than before due to the new things she has learnt: “I feel more comfortable now because I now know more about how to keep myself healthy, what kinds of food I should eat, and how I should behave myself as a player,” said Mariatu Conteh. The one important development that has occurred over the period of the football clinic is that the youngsters from the different countries are now communicating with each other in an open manner – they now know names of each other.
It can be recalled that the Airtel Rising Star football clinic was launched in coordination with Manchester United on October 28th 2011 kick-started by former player of Manchester United, Bryan Robson.
The training sessions are expected to come to an end tomorrow (Thursday, November 3rd).
