Belgium sellers gain education on ‘living with HIV
Belgium Sellers, a major Petty Traders Association, in the Capital City of Freetown have secured education on ‘Living with HIV’ in a one day HIV & AIDs workshop organised by The Business Coalition Against AIDS in SL, sponsored by TOTAL SL Limited. Having recognized the Associations valued role in promoting indigenous business in Sierra Leone, major HIV partners around the country in a bid to enhance HIV/AIDS awareness amongst the traders, stormed the Lightfoot Boston/Pultney Street premises hosting over 400 members of the Association, to bring HIV /AIDS education to their doorstep.
Event witnessed various stakeholders, including the sponsor TOTAL Sierra Leone limited, BCASSL, UNAIDS, Standard Chartered Bank and Sierra Leone Red Cross delivering valued statements regarding the importance of HIV/AIDS awareness and their contribution in complementing the government’s effort in the fight against AIDS in Sierra Leone.
The ceremony climaxed with a ‘Living with HIV’ education by the HIV Champions of the Standard Chartered Bank. Morie Fofana, Lead Country HIV Champion and Head of Human Resource Standard Chartered Bank In his remarks to introduce the educative session said, “Through our active community Partnership programme ‘Living with HIV’ initiative, Standard Chartered aims to create the awareness that one can survive the disease, if one’s status is detected at an early stage and ‘Live With HIV’ successfully. We have educated over 1 million people around the world on our ‘Living with HIV’ education programme which has gained considerable momentum in the markets where we operate in Asia, Africa and the Middle East; Over 25,000 people have been educated in Sierra Leone’’.
The ceremony was chaired by Ayodele Wak-Williams, Member of the Board of Directors, Business Coalition Against AIDS in Sierra Leone.
