APC Minister okays police ban
The Resident Minister South, Hon. Moijueh Kaikai over the weekend, endorsed the action of management of the Sierra Leone Police in the tentative banning of all political rallies countrywide.
In an exclusive Interview with our ace reporter, Minister Moijueh Kaikai commended the Sierra Leone Police responsibly imposing a ban on political rallies.
As a police force, they are in charge of internal security and must always ensure that law and order are maintained in the country.
The Minister however maintained that political rallies, particularly those planned by the two main political parties in the country – SLPP and APC, are often marred with violence.
He added that in most cases when violence occurs, the police undergo blame from mostly the disadvantaged faction.
“Therefore,” he said, “it is expedient that the police begin to act pro-actively rather wait until the odd takes place.”
“Of course, the police do not have the right to put an end to political activities in the country, but equally have the right to put a hold on rallies if they think it can hamper the peaceful co-existence of society,” he said.
Asked his view with regard the boycotting of opposition political parties in the re-opening of Parliament Friday 7th, Minister Kaikai said that the action of particularly the PMDC illustrates a complete divide.
That only the Pro – Charles Margai factions were observed absent.
“There were other PMDC members of parliament present.”
The Minister however called on the youth of Sierra Leone to detest violence. He also urged well meaning Sierra Leoneans to remain focused on the issues of development nay enticing them use the phrase ‘agenda for change’ as guiding principle.
