SSS III pupil in court for murdering uncle

17 year Samuel Thoronka, SSS III pupil of the Prince of Wales Secondary School (POW), and resident at No 48E Old Railway Line Brookfield Freetown Monday 19th was remanded in custody after pleading guilty.

The accused, Samuel Thoronka was before Magistrate Horiton of Court No. 8 on a count charge of murder, contrary to the Offences Against Person’s Act 1861.

The particulars of the offence however state that the accused, on Monday 12th September, at No 30 Old Railway Line, Brookfield, stabbed his uncle Daniel Kargbo to death.

In his testimony, Macauley Conteh who doubles as complainant and a relative to both the deceased and the accused said that the accused was on holiday with his uncle (deceased), who happened to be a driver employed by a concern worldwide.

He further told the court that the deceased complained that his money was missing and that his nephew (accused) knows about it.

The witness said however that the accused confessed using the money to purchase a play station.

“Upon his confession, the deceased was angry with him, and therefore rushed at him and hit him on his eye and cheek,” the witness said.

“A scuffle ensued between the accused and deceased which later saw the accused gaining possession of a knife he used to stab the uncle.”

Just after hearing testimonies of the witness, the accused was refused bail and remanded in custody at the Juvenile detention facility in Kingtom.

The matter was later adjourned to 3rd October for further hearing.
