Over 50 mobile SIM sellers arrested
National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) in collaboration with the CID swiftly sweeps streets of Freetown arresting over 50 SIM sellers who failed to register mobile SIM cards of customers.
The operation which is code named as ‘operation without registered SIM’ started on the 9th September 2011.
Since the establishment of NATCOM in 2006 and more so in the last three years of its existence, tremendous progress has been made in maintaining a proper framework for licensing and regulating the activities of communication operators who are providers of what is now classed as basic services.
They maintained that their primary functions as a commission is to promote the expansion of investments in the telecommunications sector, but in so doing ensures efficiency and fair competition in the sector with user protection to be guaranteed at all times.
That NATCOM facilitates the availability of affordable registered SIM in order for customers to maximize usage of the technology.
It is further said that as a commission Sierra Leoneans are assured that NATCOM will operate with all the networks in the country within the scope of the conditions, ensuring the protection of mobile communication and the consumer rights.
NATCOM however recognizes the co-operation and assistance it has been getting the Minister of Information, mobile communication companies and the CID in help solving the numerous challenges befalling the communication industry.
The CID are currently investigating all arrested.
