2012: VP Sam Sumana hopeless
The Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana, is apparently a worried man owing to circulating disclosures that he will not benefit the pleasure of President Koroma’s running mate in the 2012 elections.
Leaks forwarded to Sierra Express Media revealed President Koroma’s resolve in appointing either Musa Tarawallie or J.B Dauda as running mate in place of Vice President Sam Samuna.
It is a fact that the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party looks for a popular Southeasterner to act as running mate in the coming elections.
That it is as a result of APC’s intention to win votes in Southeastern strongholds of opposition SLPP that the President, in his last cabinet reshuffle, appointed hosts of Southeasterners as Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
It could be recalled that during the 2007 Presidential elections, hundreds of polling stations in Kailahun in the east of Sierra Leone were nullified and quashed owing to allegations of fraud.
Facts have it nevertheless that should those invalidated votes have been counted, it was sure the APC would have lost by a very thin margin to the SLPP.
Barely a day after SLPP’s election of Maada Bio as their party’s Presidential Flagcarrier, electorates in the Southeastern regions including Kailahun District consequently, and in one voice, wholeheartedly surrendered their support for Bio.
The current Minister of Internal Affairs, Musa Tarawallie, notwithstanding allegations that he is playing ‘double standards,’ is seemingly eyed as an unfailing and possible choice of running mate to President Koroma.
He is seen as a well-liked politician in mostly strongholds of the SLPP in the southern and eastern regions respectively.
It is also disclosed that the appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Joseph B. Dauda, is, to a certain extent, a reserve or an option for President Koroma’s choice of APC running mate in the coming elections.
Investigations have it that Vice President, Sam Samuna will not at all be re-appointed as President Koroma’s running mate come 2012.
Unconfirmed disclosures have it that it is the desire of the leadership of the APC to have a running mate that will break ranks in Southeastern strongholds of opposition SLPP unrestrained.
The Vice President, we are told, has been tagged as an unpopular politician by a number of APC politicians, supporters, and sympathizers.
He was accused of not having the support of his own Kono District people at all.
Affirmations in relation to President Koroma’s choice of running mate for the 2012 elections indicate that, a popular Southeasterner can better infiltrate strangleholds of the opposition in that part of the country.
Public’s assessment survey points out that the Konos will practically not vote for the APC if Vice President Sam Samuna is disapproved as President Koroma’s running mate in the 2012 Presidential elections.
