Manfanta Prisons, Much to Be Done
Because of the serious over crowing in the maximum Pademba Road Prison in Freetown, the Sierra Leone Prisons has been provided with funds to build an alternate penitentiary facility in Magburaka, in the Tonkolili District, to ease the problem. According the Director of Prisons, Mr. Moses Showers; the prison is going to accommodate more than 400 inmates and that about six cell blocks have been built so far.
Director Dennis .K. Harman, Procurement Manager explained to the press that the project will help reduce the problem of overcrowding that is always associated with the Pademba Road Central Prisons because of the crime rate in Freetown. Prisoners that would have been convicted, he said, would be transferred to Mafanta; a Prison facility that does not reach standards in the West but is perfectly built to meet all human rights standards.
