African Petroleum anticipates potential oil find offshore Liberia

According to OilVoice, African Petroleum’s geologists are anticipating a potential oil discovery off the waters of Liberia. One of the company’s geologists said, “It has been more than 30 years since oil companies searched for oil in this region, but the recent discovery of a major oilfield in the deep waters offshore Ghana, and the discovery of oil offshore in nearby Sierra Leone, has encouraged geologists in African Petroleum to look closely at the possibility of finding oil in Liberia.”

  • The company deploys Maersk Deliverer semi-submersible deep water oil rig, and drilling of two wells is already underway

African Petroleum is basing its judgement on 3D seismic programme results that uncovered similar oil bearing rocks that were found in Sierra Leone before the area went on to prove very successful in terms of tremendous oil reserve potential. “African Petroleum has completed very detailed and extensive seismic surveys costing $25 million to study the potential of the rocks beneath the deep waters offshore Liberia,” the geologist said.

“The results were so encouraging that plans were finalized to bring in the Maersk Deliverer semi-submersible deep water oil rig to drill two wells more than 30 miles off the coast, which is now in progress,” he added.
