New political party confronts PPRC
Executives of would be political ‘Citizens Democratic Party’ (CDP) yesterday 18th were at the offices of the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC) to purposely secure registration for their party.
Even though rejected on grounds referred to as ‘not fulfilling criteria as enshrined in the PPRC Act,” the Interim Chairman of the movement, Josiah Carew told personalities present that his movement (a political party in the making) is in Sierra Leone to redeem the suffering masses from untold bondage.
“All is not well in the country,” he said, “if I am to rate Sierra Leone I will rather say 0%.”
“Sierra Leone has the resources but yet is the poorest in the world. No transparency and accountability in government at all.”
PPRC officer, Mr. Ahmed John, told executives of the CDP movement that they are yet to be called a political party until they fulfill criteria required by law.
He said if the CDP wants to transform itself into a political party, it should first present two copies of its constitution, appoint an interim chairman, secure office space in Freetown and in the regions with at least five years of land lease tenancy.
He said once the above criteria is met, the PPRC will have no alternative, but to take a careful look at documents surrendered for verification within 7 (seven) working days and send it to the Government printing press.
The Public Relation Officer PPRC, Lucian Momoh, advised the membership of CDP to secure the PPRC act so that they can have themselves au-fait with legal stipulations in relation to political party registration.
He said the sum of Le2,500,000 (non- refund able) is to be paid by the CDP into an account owned by the office of the Accountant General.
