Airtel celebrates end of year with REC School Tombo

Airtel on Saturday 23rd July 2011 threw an end of year party for the pupils and teachers of the Tombo REC primary school.

This school was adopted and rehabilitated by Airtel Sierra Leone as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The manager of Corporate Affairs and Communication June-Rose Johnson said,

“Celebrating the end of the school year is a great way to transition children to a new phase in their life and also to show them that you are involved with this important milestone.

As adults, it’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day that we forget how important things like this are to children. Some children get sad, anxious or nervous about the end of a school year and this can be a great way to ease their concerns and get them excited about moving forward into a new class.”

More than eight hundred kids were satisfactorily fed with delicious dishes, and gift items were also distributed to them to take home. What was more interesting was the presence of pupils from other schools queuing to receive the food prepared for the Airtel adopted school.

A mother who came to see what her eight year old boy was so excited about said,’’ Now I know why my son is so desperate that I must seek admission for him at the Airtel sponsored school next academic year’’

There were lots of fun programs; dancing competition, music and chair, best dressed pupil, and even the teachers were part of these fun activities.

The party underlines Airtel’s commitment made to government and school authorities that adopting REC School is not a one off thing. Airtel will continue to demonstrate its commitment.
