Ambassador Yambasu takes Salone’s agenda to Russia

“Our government’s objective is to prioritize the social and economic development of Sierra Leone,” said Ambassador John Yambasu while addressing a high profile delegation of the Russian Chamber of Commerce in Moscow.

The Ambassador stressed the need for the development of Sierra Leone’s agricultural programme which can be linked up with the technological development that the Russian Federation has to offer to Sierra Leone.

The Ambassador stressed the need for the development of the right economic climate between Sierra Leone and Russia – and touched on Russia’s provision of the technologic base for the development of the fisheries industry in Sierra Leone.

The Ambassador highlighted some of Sierra Leone’s natural resources which include iron ore, bauxite, rutile, gold and diamond.

He mentioned the various facets of the Agenda for Change which includes the development of agriculture, education, infrastructure, health and energy.

The Ambassador spoke of the economic ties between Sierra Leone and Russian, whose main area is to develop the agricultural base of the two countries.

In his contribution, the Director of International Cooperation of the Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Sergey Vasiliev spoke about the good trade relationship that has existed between the two countries.  He stressed the need for the development between various countries in Africa, such as Tanzania, Congo Brazavile, and Equatorial Guinea and among others, out there was need to step up business contacts between Russia and Sierra Leone. He further noted that the Russian Federation would assist with the development of technology and the modernization of trade and commerce between the two countries. Mr. Vasiliev expressed interest in the areas of agriculture the development of small scale industry, focusing on the development of the fruit industry and the processing of apple, banana, mango, and tomato juice in Sierra Leone.

The Chamber of Commerce delegation comprised of Andrey Efimenko, Expert on International Economic Corporation, Andrey Sokratov, Deputy Director of the Federal Scientific Production Centre and Oleg Chizhevsky, Academic and Professor General Director and Chief Designer of Federal State Industry Enterprise.

In another development, Ambassador Yambasu feted Sierra Leonean students who have successfully completed their studies for this academic year. The students in turned expressed gratitude for the kind gesture of the Ambassador and promised to do their utmost in their studies to prepare themselves fully in their various fields of studies.

The Ambassador also took the opportunity to introduce the new Information Attaché, Mr. Maitland Cole to the Sierra Leonean students in Moscow. The Acting Head of Chancery, Mr. Henry Nyandemoh also spoke in the same vein to the students.
