Liverpool Watching Sierra Leone Duo
Liverpool are now said to be interested in the Sierra Leone duo Tetteh Bangura and Mohamed Bangura. The pair – who are not related – play in Sweden’s top flight for AIK Solna.
Liverpool scouts watched AIK play Halmstads BK in a Swedish league game last night and Tetteh Bangura scored all four goals in AIK’s 4-0 victory.
Tetteh, 21, joined the club on a three-year deal at the end of last summer and is in his first season in the club. The striker has now scored 14 goals in 14 league games so far this season for the side and said last month that he was aware of Premier League interest in him.
“I know Newcastle have seen all my matches and follow me,” he said, although Newcastle subsequently dismissed rumours linking him with a move to St James’s Park.
Tetteh was signed by AIK having been recommended by Mohamed Bangura, also 21, a former team-mate of his at Sierra Leone side Kallon. Mohamed came to Sweden last summer when he joined third-tier side IFK Varnamo. He scored 12 times in 13 games in the first half of last season before joining AIK in July 2010. He has since hit the net 11 times for AIK in 26 Swedish league games.
Patrick Mork, who is the agent of both “The Banguras” as they are known in Sweden, says he expects that a move is on the cards for at least one of the players before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.
“I expect that at least one of them will leave,” said Mork. “I don’t know if that’s just me being optimistic or realistic.
“But all players want to move on, and it’s my job to help them.”
AIK sporting director Jens Andersson said last month that “a handful” of scouts have been watching his club’s two star turns.
“We are in a favourable situation where we have players who are interesting several clubs,” he said.
