AU Special Representative congratulates new Somali Prime Minister on his appointment.

Nairobi, June 29th, 2011; The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Boubacar Gaoussou Diarra has welcomed and offered his congratulations and best wishes to H.E. Abdiweli Mohammed Ali (in photo) on his appointment as the new Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia.

Ambassador Diarra describes H.E. Abdiweli Mohammed Ali, who holds a Doctorate in Economics as man with the requisite education and skills that can be brought to bear in discharging the responsibilities of the Office. Ambassador Diarra also noted that the new Prime Minister comes into office with relevant experience having served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning under former Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed A. Mohamed.

“The manner in which the new Prime Minister has been appointed, including his quick endorsement by the Transitional Federal Parliament (TFP), is a vivid testimony of the commitment the Somali political leadership to a harmonious working relationship in the spirit of the Kampala Accord.” said Ambassador Diarra.

He applauded the President of the Somalia TFG and the Speaker of the TFP for the positive steps taking in furthering dialogue and reconciliation within the Transitional Federal Institutions (TFIs) and expressed hope that such a spirit would continue to prevail for the overall good of the people of Somalia.

The AU Special Representative assured the new Prime Minister of the African Union’s continued support in order to guarantee him a successful tenure.
