Will Leones Stars make or break?

The current form of our darling Leone Stars has given hope to many Sierra Leoneans that indeed there is light at the end of the tunnel for Sierra Leonean football to one day lead the continent like Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Egypt.

With the crop of our youthful national team we can make it to Africa’s greatest football tournament in 2012, but if we miss this chance there is still hope for us making it to the next edition with a young but determined squad. It is now clear that our players can easily make or break our chances of reaching continental football after sixteen years in the wilderness.

Despite the fact that we have been to the Nation’s Cup twice I do not think it is enough for us because this young and hungry squad want to display what stuff they are made of.

With this in form we had an away draw with the champions of Africa, Egypt, drew with South Africa at home, lost away to Niger, and also defeated them at home in Freetown  The team is making significant progress with a bunch of unknown quantity of players who mostly ply their trade in Sweden, Norway, Serbia and Cyprus. However only two players of the entire squad have played in the Champions League with their clubs, namely, Rodney Strasser of AC Milan, and Mohamed Kamara of Pertizan Belgrade.

With this progress Sierra Leone has also made progress in the FIFA/CAF rankings from May and we are hoping for a better standing which is set to be released on June 29.  Below are the rankings.
