In January 2011, the Playhouse Foundation donated 500 sets of double school desks and benches to primary schools in Gbense, Tankoro, Kamara and Soa chiefdoms in Kono District.
The main objective of the school furniture project is to provide pupils in selected primary schools in the more remote chiefdoms in Kono District with comfortable seating because they find themselves at school for a minimum of six hours a day enduring very difficult conditions which could have a negative impact on their academic performance overall. Comfortable seating would motivate them to perform better at school, reduce the ailments and accidents from broken benches and allow them to concentrate better during school hours. Additionally, it will increase the moral of the pupils, in general.
The Co-directors of the Playhouse Foundation would like to thank Madam Finda Diana Konomanyi, Chairman of the Kono District Council who also happens to be their first cousin, the Council of Paramount Chiefs of Kono District, particularly Paramount Chief Emmanuel Torche Foryor III of Soa Chiefdom who accompanied Ms. Finda Koroma to all the 7 chiefdoms she visited during this phase and the Kono District Council for their continued support. The Co-Directors also owe a debt a gratitude to Mr. Mohammed Bangura, head of the ONS in Kono District, Reverend Father James Jamiru, Sister Bernadine, Mrs Bernadette Turay Principal, Koidu Girls Secondary School, Mr. T.M.T. Komba formerly Deputy Director of Education in Kono District and Mr. Clint Foday of the Ministry of Education in Kono District.
