Magistrate Wellington grants bail to Biopalm Energy fraudster

Josef Morie Kamara (aka) Kama was on Tuesday this week arraigned at Magistrate Johannes Wellington’s Court No 2 on a Count Charge of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The particulars of the offence state that, the accused, Josef Morie Kamara on Tuesday October 5, last year on false pretence alleged that he owned a Toyota (4×4) 4runner Jeep that he sold to the Biopalm Energy Company and solicited a cheque of $15, 000, equivalent to the sum of Le 66 million, from Account Number 0100112160300 at the Bo Standard Chartered Bank, Bo branch, Kakua Chiefdom.

When he took to the witness stand, the Country Manager of Biopalm Energy Company Limited, Mr. Harding Tommy said he recognized the accused person in the dock. He was also able to recall October 5 of last year when the accused sealed the alleged deal with his company.

The counsel for the accused, A. Koroma applied for bail on behalf of his client on the grounds that he would escape if granted bail. He guaranteed that his client will be regular in court.

The lawyer associated with the prosecution, A. Macaulay objected to bail stating that the accused has a flight risk potential having considered the pains they went through to get him.

Magistrate Wellington however granted the accused a bail of Le 50 million with two sureties, one of them being a house owner and resident of Freetown.
