AU Special Representative condoles with the TFG on the death of the country’s Interior and National Security Minister
Nairobi, June 11th, 2011-The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Boubacar Gaoussou Diarra condoles with the President, the Government and the people of Somalia following the untimely death of the Minister of Interior and National Security, H.E. Abdishakur Sheik Hassan Farah.
The late Interior and National Security Minister was a prominent figure and a Civil Servant who loved his country. He played a tremendously important role in the transition process. He strived tirelessly to provide security for the Somali people. His sudden death represents a major loss for his nation, the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the Somalis who have been working for a sustainable peace in Somalia.
Ambassador Diarra, AMISOM’s Head of Mission said: “I had the opportunity to interact closely with H.E. Abdishakur Sheikh Hassan Farah. His poise, determination and well composed attitude were the expression of a true patriot who wanted to carry the torch of freedom and peace beyond the confines of buildings where many meetings were held.”
Ambassador Diarra extends his sincere condolences to the family of the late Minister, to the TFG, and to the entire Somali community. He noted that H.E. Abdishakur Sheikh Hassan Farah will be sorely missed by his country, especially by the people of Mogadishu where he served.
“The physical threats to the TFG and to the Somali population should never deter them from fighting for the peace they have been yearning for. The African and the international community mourn his death”, he added.
