President Ernest Koroma, Beware of Political Apologists and Opportunists

I am constrained to re-publish this article after it was published two years ago.  However, considering the good intentions of President Koroma at a time when he is pursuing reconciliation and political tolerance in a country which is polluted by political apologists both in the fourth estate (media) and all spheres of the political spectrum, it will be a great disservice to Sierra Leoneans and supporters of the APC if these apologists, political prostitutes and sycophants are left to destroy the good works of the president and his supporters.  (Photo: HE President Ernest Bai Koroma)

However, it is necessary to sometimes warn the government about some individuals because of their questionable characters, past actions, habits or simply folly.  At the time when politics was at its helm and the APC was demonize (1970’s to 2006) as a party unworthy to handle the mantle of power, dissention ranging from our highest institutions of learning to political opportunists and prostitutes who though they were enjoying the APC government, hypocritically contributed to the down fall of the government by ushering coups d’etat, verbally casting slurs and criticizing the APC government.

These same apologists and wolves in sheep’s clothing are today singing praises and blowing trumpets of solidarity to President Koroma’s government with the hope that they will gain favor and once again display their hypocrisy and treachery.  Not satisfied with opportunism and sycophancy, these wolves in sheep’s clothing are undermining the efforts of progressive Sierra Leoneans in diaspora who are promoting activities of the APC by inventing divisive and hypocritical machinations among members of the APC.   It is particularly important to be aware of such persons when they seek to be active in solidarity with the government or claim to be the president’s ally.  Alas, this is the problem in President Ernest Koroma’s government is facing today.

This old quote would seem to fit in this scenario:

“A nation can survive its fool and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.  An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banner openly against the city.  But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of the government itself.  For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to its victim, and he wears their garment and he appeals  to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.  He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it no longer resist.  A murderer is less to be feared.  The traitor is the plague.”  (Cicero to Roman Senate).

Mr. President, if you think that there are no con criminals hiding among today’s political leaders, one has to be either, incredibly naïve or believe that Jesus was lying when he warned about wolves in sheep’s clothing.  Remember that not everyone who praises you is for you; the common logic in politics is that you cannot overcome your enemy if you distance yourself from him or her.  Therefore, be cognizant that the enemy will always disguise himself/herself in different form, so stay awake and alert.

However, Mr. President, the road ahead of you is daunting and arduous, therefore as a patriot and prudent person; I am humbly asking that you reflect in the following biblical quotation which I believe will be a light as you journey through your leadership responsibilities in Sierra Leone:

The Lord Jesus warned his followers, Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves (Matt. 7:15).  The warning is important because so many people with questionable characters and tainted records are craving and clamoring around you to achieve their selfish goals.  Beware of their immaculate appearance while inwardly they possessed a poisonous venom that will be deadly to the APC party and the people of Sierra Leone

People may try to misconstrue me as a person who is oppose to the policy of reconciliation which the President Ernest Koroma is trying to pursue but in the same vein any rational being who has his country at heart will not sit and allow opportunists to exploit the good intentions of the president to reunite the country for ill-intentioned individuals to take advantage of him.

Finally, Mr. President, you can longer afford to pussy-foot about, you have to know who your friends are.  If your government is unable to distinguish the wolves from the sheep’s clothing, then it is urgent you  start contemplating about it,  If you are to defend the freedom of Sierra Leoneans you should no longer tolerate the ‘moles’ that neutralizes the power of the people of Sierra Leone.
