Sierra Leoneans in Ghana in top gear for golden jubilee
Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Ghana is currently a happy man as he rounds up his law studies amidst first-class all-round preparations for the celebration of his country’s 50 years of Independence. “It’s an occasion for all Sierra Leoneans to celebrate, no matter which party you belong to; but certainly only a progressive government can match the momentum and garner support from all shades of opinion,” the long-time political strategist turned diplomat said, insisting that all Sierra Leoneans in Ghana are in a party mood as they are encouraged by the socio-economic and political developments going on in Sierra Leone under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma.
“Indeed, we have to accept that Ghana has taken the lead in socio-economic and political transformation in the sub region in recent times; and I am encouraged that genuine Ghanaian investors are showing more and more interest in investing in Sierra Leone. I can only facilitate the process of turning their interests into real investment,” he said.
Among the activities lined up for the celebrations are church/mosque prayers; a grand reception for members of the diplomatic corps, government officials and friends of Sierra Leone in Ghana at the prestigious Golden Tulip Hotel on Independence Day itself; followed by a party at the High Commissioner’s residence.
But the celebrations are not only for the high and mighty, as activities have also been planned for Sierra Leoneans who have been living in the Bujumbura and Sanzoli refugee camps since the war days. According to the Head of Chancery, N.B Remoe-Doherty, there’ll be a football match between Sierra Leoneans and Liberians in both camps, preceded by a march-past and followed by a reception.
“We are all in high spirit, we are all happy about what is happening in Sierra Leone under President Koroma,” she maintained.
