What is wrong with the Freetown City Council?

This question has been exercising the minds of many residents of the capital for weeks now.

In addition to the many problems buffeting the FCC, this press has learnt that it is two months running without staff of that council receiving their monthly take home. In fact morale among the once enthusiastic workers has run so low that not much work is going on at the Wallace Johnson Street office, as reflected in the chaotic state of things in the city.

When one takes a walk around the city, it becomes clear that something is wrong with the Freetown City Council. The traffic congestion and the heaps of garbage strewn across Freetown centre present a picture of a city in total chaos, a city that knows no limit in sanitary disorder.

We have been harping incessantly on this issue of accumulated filth in the capital city, more so at a time when this country is on frantic preparations ahead of her 50th independence anniversary. We will not rest our voices until the day we see a well kept, clean and decent modern capital city as seen it in other cities around the sub-region.

It’s no overstatement to say that Freetown is the filthiest on earth, to put it in the superlative scale.

Therefore, there is no reason to be proud of a city that defies any decency against every giant efforts by hard working residents to keep it clean.
