ENCISS Launches Call for Grant Proposals
ENCISS Sierra Leone is launching the first Call for Grant Proposals of ENCISS Phase 3 on Wednesday 30th March 2011, at the Mamba Point Conference Hall, Wilberforce, Freetown.
The Call is officially launched by the Honourable Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Dennis Sandy. Representatives from Civil Society Organisations, government, the justice sector and the media, will grace the occasion.
In line with the Government of Sierra Leone’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, the vision of ENCISS is to see an active and engaged civil society capable of articulating citizens’ demands, and an effective state that is responsive and accountable to its citizens.
Managed by Christian Aid, the ENCISS programme seeks to strengthen the relationship between state and non-state actors to promote pro-poor policies in Sierra Leone.
The goal of ENCISS is to improve accountability and to strengthen citizens’ voice, participation in decision making and enable access to information. To achieve this goal ENCISS aims to build the skills and capacity of key CSOs, to increase their effectiveness in engaging with state institutions and communities, to promote policies that address the needs of the poor and bring about effective governance. It also seeks to promote sharing and learning of experiences among a broad range of stakeholders in Sierra Leone.
ENCISS focuses on five thematic areas which are Decentralisation and Local Development; Gender and Development; Youth and Development; Support to the 2012 Elections; and Justice and Security.
ENCISS makes grants available to CSOs and government agencies to promote transparent policies, programmes and institutions at national and district level, in line with these thematic areas.
In this vein, ENCISS has requested eligible CSOs and government agencies to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for any of the three grant types, which are Strategic Grants, Project Grants and Micro-Project Grants.
With the deadline of 11th April, the Call for Expression of Interest in Grant Proposals is the first of two stages. This pre-selection stage assesses interested applicants according to defined eligibility criteria. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit full applications.
This Launch event calling for the expression of interest to submit Grants proposals also marks the third phase of the ENCISS Programme in Sierra Leone.
